Jordan James scores the Welsh team to important World Cup qualifying triumph versus the Liechtenstein national team.

Wales earned a narrow 1-0 success over less-fancied opponents Liechtenstein to keep alive their aspirations of World Cup qualifying.

The young midfielder scored his first international strike for the national team from inside the box after the home side's assorted collection of full-time players, amateurs and part-timers had resisted for more than 60 minutes. The scorer ran off in elation with his clear emotion shared by the 3,000 Welsh fans filling three sides of the stadium in the capital.

Shortly after, though, Jordan James was booked and another yellow for Ethan Ampadu resulted in both midfielders are unavailable for the upcoming decisive game with North Macedonia due to accumulated bookings.

The home venue match is a game Wales must win to overtake North Macedonia and secure a improved position in the playoffs in March.

Craig Bellamy had an different vantage point from the sidelines, the Wales manager completing a technical area prohibition after receiving a second yellow card in the competition previously.

Bellamy’s assistant Piet Cremers took his place in the coaching zone and several key players – Jordan James, Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Neco Williams – were one caution from from missing the final qualifier. Both James and Ampadu came unstuck in incidents that may damage their team.

The home side, situated among the lowest-ranked in world football, had failed to score in their six qualifying defeats and let in 23 goals at an rate of almost four per match.

The visitors unsurprisingly had most of the play as their hosts adopted a low defensive block and got bodies behind the ball.

Their opponent's target saw little action until the forward's chasing down forced an error and Jordan James saw his attempt from the penalty area saved by Büchel.

The same combination crafted an opportunity, Jordan locating Broadhead now with a precise delivery behind the defence.

The attacker's excellent touch took him past Büchel but the attacker failed to finish from a difficult angle.

Wales believed they'd broken the deadlock after the first half when James directed a high Sorba Thomas corner back into a crowded six-yard box.

The Liechtenstein keeper was under pressure by Lawlor and Rodon, and his weak punch landed with Nathan Broadhead who finished powerfully. But Wales' celebrations were curtailed when the referee was instructed to the video review system and determined that one or more of the Welsh central defenders was in an offside position from James’s header.

Wales stepped up a gear after the half-time and Sorba Thomas sent in a ball to the far post which Daniel James struck the crossbar.

Williams then directed his header off target from inside the six-yard box as it appeared like a frustrating evening for Wales.

But, with the match having entered its final half-hour, Neco Williams delivered a clever assist for Daniel James to run past the opposition backline.

Daniel James bypassed the goalkeeper with a delightful ball along the six-yard box, and his teammate Jordan had the simple opportunity of relieving Welsh nerves.
