NFL Roundup: Broncos Edge Struggling Jets in Defensive Battle

During a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.

Dominant Performance Seals Game

Even with recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the contest.

The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes left.

Historic Struggles for Jets Attack

Despite their horrendous performance, the Jets still had possession with a chance to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.

The Jets quarterback had difficulties throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.

"Our passing game was non-existent," Glenn commented after the contest.
